Senior Summer Explorations: Week Two of Exploring Material, Structure, Color, & Mark-Making

Week 2 of my process-driven explorations for my future summer collection

July 8 (9): Going off my plarn swatch from last week where I cut strips into 1 inch strips, I did the same thing with a Kroger bag. I cast on 15 sts on a size 11 knitting needle and knitted upwards a stockinette stitch. I am not a regular knitter, but I do enjoy the occasional swatch. I'm not sure what i could turn this into, but I'd love to see it in a patchwork setting.

July 8 (10): Last summer, I finished my Charity Daisy Square blanket which consisted of 7 rows & 10 columns of the same square with no repeating squares of the same color. That took a lot of brain powers and made up a lot of stress, but the outcome was wonderful. As someone who focused solely on the many color schemes I could create, I continued to brainstorm color schemes galore. I had wanted to try crocheting with black, white, and greys for a while since most of my pieces are bright and colorful, so this was one of those tests. I thought a pink center accent color would look good, but I didn't like how you couldn't see the stitches in the black, so I will try again with a grey background.

July 8 (11): Once again, I went along with this idea of black, white, and grey as a color scheme and played with different layouts of these colors. I drew out many color layouts on ProCreate & brought this one to life. The black seemed to only be suitable for the center. The high contrast seemed to be pleasing to the eye so I went with it. I picture this to be in a Daisy Bag in a monochromatic color scheme such as this.

July 8 (12): I went along with that idea of the monochromatic black, white, and grey color scheme & only reversed the colors. This strays from my normal bright colors, but I really enjoy the break of color. Still, I want to eventually try this with a color accent as the center.

These explorations have prompted me to think more about how I can reuse found objects to recreate something different from it's intended use(s). And because of my current mental state and the state of the society, I see how important it is for me to do something outside of myself. How can I glorify God in my work? How can I encourage the people around me? How can I show the unconditional love of Christ? What can I do to prompt people to participate in the function of our nation? How can I encourage people to vote?
