Things that shaped my college experience

  • having a trans roommate after explicitly putting in my roommate application that i was not comfortable rooming with someone who did not identify with their "gender assigned at birth"

  • misgendering a clearly male-to-female trans person in my first drawing class and everyone staring at me silently as if i had just killed someone

  • my first professor of design pointing out that i had a "pro-life forever" sticker on my water bottle and saying "that's interesting!" and proceeding to dislike me the rest of the quarter and being the only professor to give me a B

  • having a suitemate my first year there having a "chosen god" being hades (what??)

  • having a mandatory zoom call with an advisor because of the chloe cole photoshoot and her explaining to me how i need to be cautious of what i share about my beliefs in the future because employers might hate it

  • my textile history teacher say that native americans actually didn't make teepees and that a bison/buffalo only had enough hide to make a small pouch

  • a grown woman in my screenprinting class ask me "is the Bible verses significant or are they cheeky?"

  • my screenprinting professor posting regularly that he doesn't think trump supporters should remain living
