Jesus Saves the Cowboys Sweatshirt
The lifestyle of country folk have been influenced with Christianity for as long as I can remember. There's no denying the Biblical beliefs from the homes of the families all across Appalachia in the East to the camps of the cowboys in deserts in the West. I think of Little House on the Prairie, the hymns sang in Southern Baptist churches, and silhouette images of the cowboys taking off their hats and kneeling with their horses to pray in front of the cross.
Just like anybody else, there is sin across the lives of the cowboys. And just like everybody who walks the face of the earth, Jesus wants to save us. None of us deserve it, but He extends His unwavering grace and mercy upon us. He wants us to repent, confess, and believe in Him.
No matter the sin, Jesus can forgive. Your sin is not greater than Christ.
This sweatshirt is made using a thrifted tan sweatshirt that once bore the name of the Cedartown Bulldogs, a north Georgia public school that is so close to home. The patch that reads "Jesus Saves" was screenprinted in a class for school & cut from a t-shirt given to me by an old friend. The image of the horse & carriage is cut from the back of a t-shirt from the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, which happens to be my favorite museum on the planet. The cowboy boot was also screenprinted on scrap cotton fabric & the stars are cotton scraps, as well. Finally, the tan patch on the bottom with the zig-zag pattern is a handwoven piece made on a Dobby weaving loom for a class at SCAD using linen yarn.
"God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 5:20-21
